Top 3 DIY Balloon Designs

Organising a party in your home and want some quirky and unusual decorations? If yes, then look no further because we are about to walk you through the easiest but most effective DIY balloon designs. They will be suitable for all kinds of fun and laid back events but especially birthday parties. Read on to learn how to make these incredible decorations in your own home.

3 – Polka Dot Balloons

Polka dots are a more feminine design or pattern so this decoration may be more suited to a girls night in party or a girl’s birthday party. They are easy to make, the materials are affordable and they are very eye-catching.

What you need:

  • Inflated Helium Balloons
  • Small polka-dot felt fabric circles (Either buy pre-cut or cut out your own using material).
  • Glue
  • String

Step 1 – Right before the party (and while helium is still strongest) adhere circular felt pieces to balloon using glue.

Step 2 – If you haven’t already done so, make sure balloons are tied with a piece of string and secure to a chair, doorknob, front door. You can even dangle fun string or tassel garland from the balloon for an added creative touch.

Step 3 – That’s it, enjoy your party!

2 – DIY Donut Balloons

Donuts are a favourite treat among all ages so this is the perfect decoration for a food themed party or at a party for someone who really loves donuts. The decorations are easy to make and the materials needed are affordable but the result is impressive.

What You Need:

  • Donut balloons (can be bought online) filled with helium are most effective. Although if you cannot purchase donut balloons, white round balloons filled with helium will suffice. The rounder the shape, the better but you can make do with the standard white helium balloon. The balloons must be white as they are the most effective to make the balloons look like actual donuts.
  • Acrylic Craft Paint
  • Foam Brush
  • Crepe Paper (Cut into small rectangles)
  • Double-stick Tape

Step 1 – To create your “frosting”, paint a rough circle of paint on one side of the donut balloon. Let dry and then paint a second, thin coat for better coverage. Let dry completely (the paint dries pretty fast on these balloons!).

Step 2 – Add your sprinkles by adhering a piece of double stick tape to the back of each crepe paper “sprinkle” and adhering to the balloon.

Step 3 – All done, step back and admire your creation!

DIY Donut Balloons

1 – Lollipop Balloons

Do you ever watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or a Katy Perry music video and wish you could have a chocolate waterfall and lollipop trees in your garden. Well, we can’t help you with the chocolate waterfall but we can show you how to make your own lollipop balloons. The materials are affordable, the DIY design can be done in minutes and it will create a great talking point at your party.

What You Need:

  • Balloons
  • Cellophane (a plastic wrapping material, often used to wrap hampers or bouquets)
  • Dowels (solid cylindrical rod, usually made of wood, plastic, or metal)
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Black Tape
  • White Paint
  • String

Step 1 – Paint the dowels white and let them dry thoroughly (should look like giant lollipop sticks).

Step 2 – Wrap the black tape around the top of the dowel and then continue wrapping down until the end. Make it look like a black and white pattern.

Step 3 – Blow up the balloons.

Step 4 – Tape around the end of the balloon to the top of the dowel.

Step 5 – Cut a square piece of cellophane large enough to wrap around the balloon and gather at the bottom. Secure the wrapped cellophane with a piece of string and cut off the ends. Fluff the cellophane a bit to give it some shape.

Step 6 – Stick them into the grass outside or into plants indoors so that they are secure and won’t blow away.
